Glenwood Elementary School will dismiss classes for the summer on Thursday, June 4 at 1:30. The Extended Child Care will be held at Glenwood this summer. You may register your child by completing a form from the school office. The EXCEL program sponsored by the LEAPS Lottery Grant will be held during the month of June. We hope you have a fun summer. The new school year will begin on Monday, August 17, 2009.

Glenwood is celebrating Earth Day by writing a book and recycling what others might consider garbage. Mrs. Hodgers invited the fourth grade to write and draw pictures on the topic "River Adventures in a Red Canoe". The book is a testimony to the wonderful artists and writers we have at Glenwood. In addition, Mrs. Hook has led a recycling team of fourth graders to collect recycling items from each classroom. This year they have recycled 2,080 pounds of paper, plastic, and cans.

"Llama, Llama mad at momma" received a round of laughter from the Glenwood students.

The Penguin Players from Dollywood gave a wonderful performance of Llama, Llama, Red Pajama for the students in grades Kindergarten through second grade. The students enjoyed the songs written by Dolly Parton and the infectious rhymes from author Ann Dewdney. The performance was sponsored by ORAU.

The staff at Glenwood is excited to share the results of the 2007 Tennessee Department of Education Report Card. Glenwood Elementary received A's in math, reading/language, and science, with a "B" in social studies. Ninety-eight percent of the students were deemed proficient or advanced in math, reading/language and writing. In the value-added assessment category, Glenwood earned straight A's in the four major academic areas. Congratulations to the students, parents, volunteers, and staff for making Glenwood a learning place where everyone can be their best!
